<P class=MsoNormal>A three car road accident outside the Churchill School in Haven Drive this morning has brought an angry response from residents.

<P class=MsoNormal>The accident at 8 o'clock (15 October) happened just before the busy school run.

<SPAN lang=EN-US><FONT color=black><FONT size=3><P class=MsoNormal>A witness told the Gazette a car travelling along Haven Drive towards Folkestone collided with a parked car, which in turn was shunted into another parked car.

The witness said the sun was very low at the time and it was difficult to see.

Both the driver and passenger of the car were taken away by ambulance but it is not thought their injuries were serious.

Headteacher at the Churchill School Jennie Carter warned in September that the road was dangerous and that with the low sun in the morning,  drivers might be blinded driving south east and drive into parked vehicles.

<P class=MsoNormal>Mrs Carter had written to Shepway Council of the dangers but they told her they are unable to do anything as the road has not yet been adopted.

<P class=MsoNormal>Following today's crash Mrs Carter has written to the police in Folkestone requesting police cones to prevent parking on the road.

<P class=MsoNormal>She said : "I believe there could be a fatality.

<P class=MsoNormal>"The sooner this road is adopted by Shepway District Council the better".

<P class=MsoNormal>Comments from  Gazette readers flooded into the Chatterbox.

These are just a few of the postings

<P class=MsoNormal>· Oh dear, an accident outside Churchill school this morning. Can't say I'm surprised. I would say "let this be a lesson to those parents that can't be bothered to park in the school car park", but who would listen?

<P class=MsoNormal>· the school car park is too small for the traffic in the morning and Pentland Homes will not allow access across the pathway into the nursery car park. Not always us mums to blame you know

<P class=MsoNormal>· Perhaps if you have the spare time to type these messages in the morning, you could volunteer to be a lollypop man/lady and 'those parents who can't be bothered to park in the school' situation would be improved?????
And another thing!....... the accident occurred at 8am this morning, long before any staff had turned up at school, let alone parents dropping kids off.

· Here here! to the previous few comments. A lot of the parents do try to walk whenever possible, what you have to realise is that there are quite a few parents who have to go to work in the morning and have no choice but to drop their children off before making thier onward journey. Let's not forget the people involved this morning, they were hurt after all!

· Typical of someone to stand in judgement at the parents of the Churchill School again! When we were children, our parents didn't have the worries we have today about safety, so we walked to school on our own. Now we have to accompany our children to keep them safe, it is not always convienient to walk. Obviously you are not in this position yourself!
