Faxes are being sent out relating to goods seized by the police due to thefts which are supposedly being sold in disposal auctions. The faxes say that if the owners cannot be found, the goods are then sold at a 'no reserve' sale for a much reduced price.

For example:
Case of Vintage Wine: Retail: £280 Sold for £10
Cannon Photocopier Retail: £850 Sold for £15
Complete Phone System Retail: £3100 Sold for £35

The fax advises you to dial the number just to get an up to date catalogue of goods being sold. The cost of the call/fax is at £1 per minute. They also state that to be removed from their mailing list you have to fax another number, which is based outside the UK.

Kent Trading Standards are advising consumers and traders to be wary of replying to these types of faxes, even if you just want to be removed from their mailing list.

You may wish to register with the Fax Preference Service who can stop unwanted sales and marketing faxes.

Their telephone number to register is 0845 070 070
