The team behind one of the biggest coast protection schemes ever carried out along the Shepway shoreline has been presented with another award.

Colin Clinton, President of the Institution of Civil Engineers - presented the award to Shepway Council at a reception at Leeds Castle. (Friday 18 March)

The Hythe to Folkestone coast protection scheme won the Thomas Brassey Award for an outstanding example of a civil engineering project in 2004/05.

The judges praised the technical quality of the scheme and in particular how the work carried out with local schools enhanced the reputation of civil engineering.

Robert Beck, Commercial Services Manager at the Council, said: “This award is recognition of the team’s hard work and shows that Shepway District Council can compete with the very best when it comes to designing and managing major projects.

Last year, the team has also secured the Outstanding Achievement in Procurement award after beating off other short-listed district council rivals in a national competition organised by the Society of Procurement Officers in Local Government (SOPO).
