Distinguished artist opens Folkestone Art Society Autumn exhibition - Photos

Distinguished artist Fiona Graham-Mackay opened the Folkestone Art Society Autumn exhibition at The Grand Hotel on Friday 7 November.


 



 

FAS chairman Sue Brelade spoke about the many artistic events that had taken place recently in Folkestone including the contribution from Banksy

 

Fiona’s recent work has included portraits of Robin Knox-Johnston, Lord Carrington, Prince Michael of Kent and Seamus Heaney.

Her next commission is former Monty Python star, Michael Palin.

 

Fiona spoke encouragingly to the young artists whose work had won prizes whilst FAS chairman Sue Brelade spoke about the many artistic events that had taken place recently in Folkestone including the contribution from Banksy.

Also present at the exhibition was Folkestone Town Mayor Cllr Alan North who was wearing a badge of office which had been presented to Folkestone by the RAF at Hawkinge when they left the airfield after World War II.

White Horse artist, Charles Newington and John Doyle, the past President of the Royal Watercolour Society were also in attendance.

Several artists had chosen a World War I theme but it was an oil painting of Folkestone Downs by Ann Wimsett that won the President’s Choice.

The exhibition runs from Saturday 8th November to Wednesday 19th November 10 am to 5pm each day.
