Double gold for Dover man

Twenty-year-old Elliott Allen has been congratulated by the Chairman of Dover District Council after his medal success at the World Kickboxing and Karate Union (WKU) World Championships.


Elliott's haul included two Gold Medals.

He competed at the WKU World Championships in Kerry in Ireland from 27 August to 1 September where he won Gold in the 75kg Light Continuous category, Gold in the 75kg Kumite Karate category, Silver in the Open Weight Kumite Karate Team category, and Bronze in the 75kg Point Fighting category.


As well as his medals success Elliott is also celebrating news that he has successfully completed his apprenticeship at Dover District Council, and on returning from the World Championships, he started in his new full-time job as Community Development Officer at DDC.

He started his apprenticeship in the Community Services Team at Dover District Council in 2015. He has now completed his apprenticeship, completing a Business and Administration course through East Kent College, and he successfully applied for a full-time position at the Council.

The Chairman of Dover District Council, Cllr Sue Chandler, met Elliott this week to congratulate him.

She said: “It was a real pleasure to be able to congratulate Elliott. To achieve this level of sporting success requires tremendous dedication and determination. It’s important to encourage and celebrate the talents of younger people, and Elliott’s medal success was a great achievement.”


Elliott said: “It’s certainly been a busy year, and I’ve had some great opportunities. I’ve enjoyed competing at the World Championships, and it’s been a great chance to learn about different cultures. I’ve also enjoyed my apprenticeship at DDC, it’s been a great chance to learn new skills, and I’m looking forward to the future.”
