Kent festival-goers will be given a Summertime boost later this month as Create Festival is coming to town for its 23rd year, with a top headline act - “the magnificent” DJ Jazzy Jeff!

The American record producer, DJ, actor and comedian who is best known for his friendship and collaboration with Will Smith as DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince, will top the line-up at the free event in Victoria Park, Ashford, on Saturday 21st July.

From his successes with Will Smith, to his critically acclaimed production company “A Touch of Jazz”, DJ Jazzy Jeff has won three Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two NAACP Awards, two Soul Train Music Awards and an MTV Music Award.

Create Festival is already one of the South East’s biggest and long established free music festivals, taking place every July in Ashford’s Victoria Park. The festival has grown significantly over the last five years and now features four music stages with a packed line-up of original acts spanning from rock and pop to folk and dance. The festival also features a mix of food markets, bars, outdoor theatre, arts and crafts, and creative pyrotechnics.

Mama Brass

This year as well as hosting DJ Jazzy Jeff, the main stage (which is sponsored by Ashford College) will also be home to a mix of fantastic acts throughout the day, including Mama Brass – a spiced-up ten-piece brass and drum collective, delivering an energetic mix of original material and fresh twists on classic and current tunes – and Esther, a four piece electronic band from Deal.

Other exciting acts on the day include The Gallerys (an up and coming three piece alternative rock band from Kent) who will be performing on the Revelation Stage, Paul Dunton Orchestra (a unique cross-over orchestra providing an atmospheric fusion of alternative and pop with a classical twist) on the County Square Community Stage, and DJ Moscat (a local DJ and music producer who has worked with the likes of Tim Westwood) on the Ashford College DJ Stage.

12,000 people

Last year, the festival attracted an amazing 12,000 people – despite the rain threatening to put a dampener on the occasion.

Of this year’s event, Create Festival Organisers say, “DJ Jazzy Jeff has to be one of the most accomplished and influential Hip-Hop artists in the world. It is testimony to the growing success of Create and the amazing support we receive, that we have been able to secure such a world-renowned artist”.
