A shoebox containing tens of thousands of pounds was seized from a car stopped in Ashford.

The vehicle was pulled over by officers in the Kennington Road area at about 5.15pm on Wednesday 8 August 2018.

A small quantity of cannabis was discovered in addition to the money, which has not yet been counted but is believed to be in the region of £50,000.

The driver of the vehicle, a 51-year-old man from Essex, was arrested on suspicion of money laundering and possession of cannabis.

He has been released pending further enquiries by detectives from the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate.
