After a great turn out in May, the Mason Mile Challenge is returning to Ashford! Can you run a mile in 10 minutes? Do you want to earn money while you exercise? Then the Mason Mile might be just the thing for you.
Young people and their families can run, jog or even walk the distance at the free family event taking place in Victoria Park on Sunday 16 September.
All who participate will receive a
wristband, but there’s an added bonus for children too - if you’re under 13
you’ll get 50p for taking part in the challenge, £1 if you complete the
challenge in under 10 minutes and £2 if you complete it in under 8 minutes. Pets
get 50p for taking part too!
However, the challenge isn’t all
about what you can earn but also what you can learn – the Mason Mile challenge
supports you towards a healthier, happier and more active lifestyle. You don’t
need to be a runner to join, all you need to do is accept the fun challenge.
The Challenge aims to encourage the following positive traits/life lessons in
the children who participate:
· Motivation, self-control and self-discipline
· Decision-making
· Hard work
· The understanding that life can be tough and competitive
· Moral and social responsibility to look after yourself
· Helping others less fortunate
· Leadership and teamwork
· Valuing exercise and diet
· What you can do for society, not what society can do for you
The Mason Mile Challenge is open and accessible to all ages and abilities, and
is designed to help you make simple steps to better physical and mental health –
not only can you challenge yourself by undertaking the mile long exercise, but
there will also be NHS health checks, water and free fruit available too.
The event will be held in Victoria Park on Sunday 16 September. The race starts
at midday but the event opens at 10am.
