This was the Hawks first clean sheet of the season, which saw six players make their debuts.

The Hawkinge back four was superbly marshalled by Pat Kingwell, who captained the side and showed great leadership.

In an even first half, fiercely contested in the midfield, Hawkinge always looked the more likely to break the deadlock.

Having gone close through a rasping left footed drive over the bar from Webb, the Hawks broke the deadlock in the 37th minute. A high ball into the K Sports box was nodded down by Hardwick to the feet of Hawks striker Craig Thompson and he made no mistake by calmly slotting the ball home, to put the Hawks a goal to the good at half time.

The second half was a much less even affair, as Hawkinge took full control of the game and midfield; where Michael Yianni was outstanding in driving the team forward.

The second killer goal however took its time coming, but eventually arrived in the 76th minute when the ball broke loose on the edge of the area and was met by substitute Liam Smith, who steered a well controlled finish into the bottom left of the K Sports net, to seal a thoroughly deserved win for the Hawks and a vital 3 points.

Manager Scott Porter said, ‘I’m very pleased with the result; its been a busy 2 weeks bringing in players & getting them to play the way I want them to, but they are buying into my ways which is pleasing. With 4 players missing it gives me a selection headache for next Saturday which is what I like. Clean sheet, 3 points at home, Perfect Saturday’.

Hawkinge are on the road next week, when they travel to South London to take on high flying Bromleians.

Hawkinge Team: Wallace, Bartlett, Webb, Jackson, Kingwell, Sheridan, Yianni, Ransley, Brown, Hardwick, Thompson. Subs: Smith, Partridge, Carney
