A suspected drunk driver in Sittingbourne has been charged under legislation introduced to protect emergency workers.

At around 3.40am on Wednesday 8 May 2019, Kent Police officers requested the driver of a car that had stopped in Pembury Street, Sittingbourne to provide a specimen of breath.

It is alleged the driver assaulted one of the officers and he was arrested.

The 23-year-old from Murston near Sittingbourne was later charged with assaulting an emergency worker, driving a vehicle with no licence, driving a vehicle without insurance and drink driving.

He has been bailed to appear at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on 14 June.
