A new art deco style clock, imaginative new lighting, the latest electronic information, and a range of refurbishments are included in the second phase of major renovations to Deal Pier, which is now getting underway.

The £600k investment includes work to replace the clock with an art deco style clock at the pier entrance, specially commissioned from leading clockmakers, Smith of Derby.

Work will also include the installation of an electronic public information screen showcasing Deal and the area, and new LED lighting to frame the pier structure while minimizing energy consumption.

The latest phase of improvements will also include refurbishments to pier shelters, general painting and repairs, the replacement of the CCTV system, and concrete repairs to the pier structure. There are also proposals for new banners at the pier entrance, subject to planning permission.

Work has already started on replacing electrical cabling and equipment in the pier entrance canopy. Scaffolding was put up at the pier entrance building on Friday (6 September) to provide access to renew windows and make general repairs. The intention is that the pier will remain open throughout the latest phase of works.
