Dover District Council is welcoming news that an inspiring initiative led by the Council has been commended in a new Kent Sport awards scheme.

Organisations and community groups across the county were invited to apply for a new award recognising innovation in community sport and physical activity.

The KUDOS Awards were launched by Kent Sport earlier this year, and attendees at the Kent and Medway Sports Conference on 26 September voted for an overall winner.

The Inspire Fund from Dover District Council was given a special commendation as part of the awards.

The Inspire Fund was set up in 2016 and has helped over 500 young people who are experiencing challenges in their lives and who would benefit from a new activity. A range of referral partners refer young people for the funding.

Local clubs are used in preference over one-off large providers. This supports the local clubs and in several cases has enabled new sessions to be started, and for sessions to be provided in new locations.
