Don't be a victim after spate of thefts from vans parked in Dover and across East Kent

Van owners in east Kent are being urged to take measures to protect their vehicles following reports of thefts in the district.

Kent Police has received a number of reports of vehicle crime in Dover, Canterbury, Thanet and Shepway between Friday 10 January and Friday 17 January 2020.

The reports include tools being stolen from vans in the York Street and Leyburne Road areas of Dover overnight between Friday 10 and Monday 13 January.

A power saw and other tools were reportedly taken from another vehicle in the Castle Road area of Whitstable overnight between Wednesday 15 and Thursday 16 January.

A resident living near Lymington Road, Westgate-on-Sea then reported an attempted theft from a van at 2am on Friday 17 January before another theft was reported in the same area at 7am that day.

Kent Police are urging people to be vigilant and for van owners to consider the following measures:

• Locking your van in a garage or secure location.

• Fitting an alarm to your vehicle.

• Parking in a well-lit area.

• Installing CCTV or parking in areas which are covered by CCTV.

• Ensuring you know what is in the vehicle, recording any serial numbers and photographing contents.
