Being an on-call firefighter is ‘a way of life’ for Ashford resident David Blunt and now he’s encouraging others to give it a go. He said: “The idea of making a difference to my community and helping people in their times of need really appealed me. I have learnt so many useful skills, such as team work and first aid, that come in useful for other areas of my life.”
 


Witnesses sought following Birchington burglary

Kent Police is appealing for witnesses after a burglary was reported at a property in Canute Road, Birchington. It is believed to have happened sometime between 1pm and 6pm on Wednesday 18 April 2018.
 


Boy in Canterbury assaulted by pair of teenagers holding crowbars

It was reported that at around 3pm on Thursday 19 April, a teenage boy was walking in London Road, Canterbury towards the junction of New Street, when he was assaulted by two people holding crowbars. Members of the public then intercepted and the two suspects left the area in a car.
 


Man on a bike tries to grab primary school age girl in Ashford

Kent Police is appealing for witnesses to a report of an attempted accosting in Ashford. It was reported that just before 5.00pm on Thursday 19 April, a girl of primary school age was in a park near Bluebell Road in Kingsnorth when she was approached by a man on a bicycle who attempted to grab her on the waist.
 


Dover sex offender jailed for 20 years

A Dover man who denied a number of sexual offences including rape and indecent assault has been jailed. John James Carter, aged 63, of Edgar Road, Dover was jailed for 20 years by Judge Simon James at Canterbury Crown Court on Friday 20 April 2018.

Officers investigating a report that a woman was raped in Thanet are appealing for information. It is believed two members of the public may have seen a woman in a car in St Mary’s Road, Minster, between 11.30pm and 11.50pm on Friday 30 March following the reported attack.
